bocce ball

Alicia's Sister Erica turned the big 3 ohh and we celebrated in style at Campo di Bocce with a bocce ball tournament. It was so much fun despite being bounced out of the tournament in the first round. I'm not sure but I think there was some cheating going on. The girls had a good time running around the bocce courts chasing the balls around. I think their favorite part of the night though was splashing in the fountain outside. Soaked!

Monozygotic

Huh? What is that?

That means the girls are identical twins. For the past 14 months we have thought the girls were fraternal twins because our doctor tested the girls placentas when they were born and determined that they were fraternal. Apparently this test is not that accurate. If the egg splits within the first three days both twins will have their own placentas and sacks. We just assumed because the doctor said that they were fraternal they they were and we never thought much of it. Everybody we ran into always told us they had to be identical and we always would say otherwise. After hearing about several other people who got the same results from their doctors and had the DNA test confirm otherwise we decided to do the DNA test just to make sure. We got the kit, swabbed the inside of the mouths of both babies and sent off the "DNA" for testing. We got the results back today.

Here are the results from the letter.

"The twins are concordant for fifteen out of fifteen STR DNA markers. The twins are monozygotic (i.e. "identical twins") with a greater than 99% probability."

It's not like it really matters anyway. What are they going to do, give us a bigger tax break or something? It is nice though that we can finally say....

"Yes, they are identical".

I've been tagged!

What is "tagged" you ask? It's the same thing as the game we played when we were kids (which I ruled at by the way) but instead It's a game of blog tag. I'm way too lazy to actually try and chase anyone anymore. Basically some of my photographer friends (thanks Martha, and Mark) have tagged me to share 8 random facts about myself that you wouldn't otherwise know. In turn I get to tag some other photographers to do the same.

I'm even going to up the ante and add some pictures.

1. My wife Alicia and I spent our honeymoon in a tropical paradise. Alaska!

2. I'm a huge fan of the New England Patriots football team. I've been to a bunch of home and road games as well as Super Bowl 38 in Houston. And yes, I dragged Alicia along with me.
3. I have also dragged her to all the old baseball stadiums. We've been to Wrigley Field, Fenway Park, and Yankee Stadium.
4. I'm a mechanical engineer at my real life. I design mechanical components and mechanisms for semiconductor test equipment. I know it's exciting, calm down.

5. I have the most amazing and supportive wife in the world. Not only is she an amazing wife, she's an even better mother to our two little girls.

6. My Favorite movie is
North Shore. It's a cheesy surf movie from the 80's were a kid from Arizona moves to Hawaii and becomes a surfing champ. I'm not sure how it did not win the academy award for best picture.

7. I love
super burritos. Easily the greatest culinary creation ever. And I happen to live in the super burrito Mecca of Northern California. This is probably why I'm so "buff".

8. Having twins this past 14 months has been the hardest and by far the best time of my life. Alicia and I laugh so much everyday at all the little things they do and it's truly amazing to watch them grow into little people. I can't imagine my life without them and I can't remember what it was like before they were here. Although I do vaguely remember being able to sleep past 7:30am, that was nice.

These photographers all do great work and are truly inspiring to me.

Tag you're it!

Kyle

Here you go Kyle. I know you have been waiting for these pictures of your Mom and Dad. They are a little out of focus and in the background in this one. Sorry about that.
